This week I travelled to Brussels so I could give a talk at the Quantified Self Meetup group there. And I've been involved in the startup Scanadu which is about broadcasting your health. Together with people like Walter de Brouwer and Misha Chellam we are going to take a different approach to health. During my stay in Brussels I've learned a lot (including my level of French, it's really bad!). Really liked the city though! continue reading...

I am an avid user of shortcuts and like to improve my workflow and I would like to discover hidden patterns. This is what happens next. When I bought my Mac 2 months ago I dumped my mouse in favor of the trackpad. Did this influence my mouse/trackpad interaction? Sadly I can't draw any conclusions about it because I switched my operating system too! However more recently I started using MacLogger and together with Jelle I've made some custom python and processing scripts that should offer more insight into my mouse usage. continue reading...

I've seen a fair bit of infographics and I don't like them very much anymore. But this one is worth sharing:

Be sure to check out the Health Internet of Things (HIT) as well!

Via Jeroen was ik uitgenodigd om een workshop te geven bij de Durftevragen Nieuwjaarsboost 2011. Helemaal in Eindhoven!

The collected data of 2010, mostly trough PersonalStats, but Foursquare and Twitter too, is a huge amount. Next to interpreting this data and using the information to create a feedback moment, the data can also turned into art. Nicholas Felton makes a perfect example: his highly interesting Annual Report fascinates me in both visual and informational ways. As Kees discovered Processing, it left me wondering what I could do with it. continue reading...

This year passed with an excellent speed, not to quick, but certainly not slowly. I think pictures say more then words so I would like to share with you every picture I took at 8:36pm during 2010: (Huge thanks to my brother Kees who was so kind to make a video of it!) Not only did I finish my bachelor degree this year, but I also started Qs Amsterdam and some other interesting projects. continue reading...

I use Read It Later for saving webpages, but if those pages contained video's I had to visit the webpages, load the video etcetera... It simply does not fulfill my needs for watching video... While searching Google I discovered RadBox, which does exactly what I want: use a bookmarklet to save video's to watch later. They offered an API and RSS-feed of my video's so I decided to build my own based on App Engine. continue reading...

I really don't like shopping for groceries and I developed the habit to forget half of my groceries.... A digital grocery list would be perfect.... shortly after discussing todo-lists with Martijn Aslander I was inspired to build a mashup to solve my problem. Based on information gathered by Instamapper in combination with the Haversine formula it is possible to calcuate the distance between two points on a sphere. When the distance is small enough a push notification including a link to my digital grocery list is send to my iPhone trough the Notifo API. continue reading...

I am troubled by data portability. It is a highly overlooked factor. And in many services I used for collecting the export function was simply not present.. If i left the service I lost my data, a sad case... Recent actions of social networks like facebook allow a user to export data, but only by rules set by facebook. Another example could be Runkeeper, which i use to collect my efforts of exercising. continue reading...
