Stand Up Inspiration: Mijn Reis naar #QS2011

Preview of my San Francisco Report

For the people who sponsored me for my trip to San Francisco, I’m building a report inspired my Nicholas Felton about my trip. I wanted to show you a small preview on the right: I’m aiming to have at least 4 page worth of data to show you. Since I’ve never dived deep into Processing, the building time is somewhat extended, so I don’t know when it’ll be finished. I started studying Media Technology as well, so spare time is a little bit limited.

How I would like to write.

From how to live safely in a sciencefictional universe by Charles Yu. I’m typing, even though strictly speaking I am using the TM-31’s cognitive-visual-motor-sound-activated recording module, which operates, as you might guess, by simultaneously tracking output from the user’s neural activity, voice, finger movements, retinal movements, and facial muscle contractions. It’s part keyboard, part microphone, part optical scan, and part brain scan. When I want to type, I raise my hands up in front of me, palms down, in a position approximating typing, and a virtual QWERTY layout materializes in front of me.

San Francisco 2011 & #QS2011

On the 25th of may my trip started with a 11 hour long flight straight to San Francisco to visit the Quantified Self Conference in Mountain View. The trip was funded by donations, ideas and people. Together with Martijn Aslander I’ve spent the first few days as a tourist and visited most of the spots that represent San Francisco. Then we boarded the Caltrain for Mountain View. I volunteered at the the conference which brought me way more then being just there as a guest.

Extendability

It started millions of years ago with fire and the invention of language. Then simple tools and in later stages, clothing and shoes. Nowadays the trend continues with more sophisticated technology. Smartphones and watches are some of the things we keep on us at all times. Humans have developed the habit to extend themselves by using technology. In such a way that it sprouted a certain feeling of loss when not having access to the technology of which we’ve made our own.

Welkom!
